Mykola Tomenko: Public will completely reject the Idea of Simultaneous Parliamentary and Presidential Elections
Mykola Tomenko, Deputy Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, stressed that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine should adopt a new election law, and the President of Ukraine should sign it one year before the parliamentary elections.
He made the foregoing statement during his working visit to Chernihiv region.
Mykola Tomenko reminded that parliamentary elections will be held in October 2012, so a new law on elections of the People´s Deputies should be adopted not later than October 2011.
However, the Deputy Chairman informed about the talks concerning possible postponement of parliamentary elections. "Again the possibility of simultaneous parliamentary and presidential elections is being discussed," he stated. M.Tomenko stressed that the authorities should realize that international community will not support postponement of parliamentary elections. "Still, it is rather complete rejection of Ukrainian public, not international disapproval that is the biggest problem," the Deputy Chairman stated.
